Which outdoor plants and flowers are the easiest and hardiest to grow in the uk?

I have a city garden and am yet to fill it with any plants or flowers. I am looking for the easiest pot plants to grow. Mainly to add a bit of colour and soften the look. Please help. POTS only as no beds

FlowersBirthday FlowersSympathy FlowersBeing a landscape gardener I can tell you that they are probably hundreds of plant that would go well in pot. What I suggest you do is visit you local garden centre/nursery and see what they have got.


But don’t make the mistake that a lot of people do, that is visit it and by all the plants at once, garden centres tend to only have plant that look good at the present time e.g. July. So lets say you have room for twelve plant and you buy all twelve together, then your garden will look good in July but the rest of the year mediocre. So go once every month and by one plant, that way you will have something interesting all year round.


Suggestion: Olives (Olea europaea) are becoming popular as patio/terrace plants they do well in pot and their silvery leaves make them look good all year round.
