What kind of plants/flowers should I plant?

I just bought a new home and it needs a lot of landscaping/yard renovations. So I will be basically starting with nothing. What kind of plants would be good to plant that would look good all year round? I live Ohio and the front of the house gets a lot of sun! Please Help!

FlowersBirthday FlowersSympathy FlowersI don%26#039;t live in the same zone as you but I am going through the same thing. There are lots of evergreen care free plants and shrubs. I bought a book specific to my area and it has come in handy. I reccomend you buy one or check one out at your library. You want evergreen carefree perennials. Like I said, I don%26#039;t know about your zone, but daylilies are nice if you want flowers, and there are small and taller ones. Hostas are very nice evergreen plants. They do flower but you can snip those off if you don%26#039;t like them. Most people think you can only plant hostas in shade but there are many full sun species also. Hostas are good because you can buy small ones and in a season they will be amazingly larger and will grow to be 2-3 feet tall and wide. Liriope is nice, it is like an ornamental grass. It also starts small and grows fast. And all of these are basically plant%26#039;em and forget%26#039;em plants. Dianthus is a nice draught tolerant flowering plant and you can find them with almost any color flower. They are short. Ajuga is nice for a ground cover. If you go to a nursery or even a home improvement place the plants have the information you need to know on them and the people who work there can be helpful. If you go to lowes.com they have a garden planner that gives you a list of plants for your particular zone and sun exposure. It lets you design you whole yard. You have to register but it is free. Good Luck!
